Lois Lowry, who was honored at NCAC’s annual gala this year, described herself as a rather unlikely target for censorship. Indeed, Lowry’s books have been challenged for decades. In their “100 most frequently challenged books by decade” list, the ALA cites The Giver at #11 between 1990 and 1999 and at #23 between 2000 and 2009.
